De-mystifying ophthalmology for GP veterinarians

About

Interactive resources and online learning to empower vets in first opinion small animal ophthalmology

Simplifeye is a passion project – a collection of tools designed to give you a helping hand in ophthalmology when you need the information quickly mid-consult, or when you want to refresh and further your learning later on.

I mean it when I say that I have poured my heart and soul into these tools and learning resources, and I truly hope that they help everyone to succeed or – at the least – find ophthalmology less scary!

Hello there

photo-2022-12-10-15-18-10_edited_edited.

I'm Ellie – ex-ophthalmophobe, turned ophthalmology lover with a certificate and referral ophthalmology job under my belt. It’s lovely to meet you and I’m so delighted that you’re here!

I have one mission:

To de-mystify ophthalmology for as many first opinion vets as possible.

I created Simplifeye because I know how daunting ophthalmology can be - I've been there, got the "panicked and dispensed Exocin" t-shirt. Before I fell in love with eyes in my pre-certificate/referral days I, like everyone else, found them intimidating, felt like nothing really made sense and dreaded the "eye still not better" rechecks.

I also know first-hand just how difficult the pressures of small animal first opinion can be (day, night or locum shifts) - the time restraints, the financial restraints and it simply not being possible to remember every detail about every possible condition at the drop of a hat.

I wanted to do something to help - so I created resources that takes some of the stress out of eye cases

I've produced these in light of what you need in the moment at work when you're having a brain blank, or when you want to learn more (I hope so - eyes are fascinating!)

DIAGNOSTIC AID

For when you need to know your options quickly. Simply answer a few short questions and the aid will tell you what differentials to consider.

Available for:

Chronic/Worsening Ulceration, Vision Loss, Ocular Lesions and Abnormal Eye Position

FORMULARY

Struggling to remember what your treatment options are or what the dosing frequency is? The formulary contains condensed information about each ocular medication with additional tips and tricks.

RAPID FIRE

For when you know the diagnosis but need a quick run-through of the need-to-know information

WEBINARS

For anyone who wants to dive deeper. Curated according to areas people commonly struggle with, explained in a way that makes sense.

HOW TO VIDEOS

Found yourself with an operation to do and little clue how to do it? Common surgeries covered, all complete with a simple run-through of the steps followed by surgical footage

Let’s be clear – none of this is designed to replace the option of referring patients or seeking advice from an ophthalmologist.

Eyes are great, but like any organ they can do weird and wonderful things that lie beyond the scope of first opinion.

More rather, these tools are here to help you understand common conditions, know which things need referring sooner and to give you a clue about what to do in the first instance if referral is not an option.
